Yesterday was a little frustrating when I tried to watch the Inauguration at Somosaguas. Most of the computers don't have the latest version of Flash Player needed to run videos, which was annoying. None of the computers had sound. Eventually the computer loaded the Inauguration website, which had closed captioning, so I did at least get to watch President Obama's speech later. The hassle I guess was part of the experience, and I guess not more of a hassle than waking up really early and braving the cold, as some 3 million did yesterday.
I did get to watch the speech with audio again when I got home last night. Not one of his best speeches, but still very good. And, despite the problem with the oath (that's what happens when we have such a young whippersnapper as Chief Justice), Barack Obama is now our President. I was definitely crying a little. It's exciting.
I almost don't even know what to do with myself now that I'm not living under the specter of the Bush administration. He was president for eight of my twenty years, pretty much my entire politically conscious life, and his presidency cast quite a shadow on the landscape of American society. I did hear that he and Mr. Cheney got some boos at the Inauguration, which I think is inappropriate even if you disagree with them. At the time, they were President and Vice President of the United States.
But not anymore :)
